CyberWeb Services

The terminology of the World Wide Web can be confusing sometimes, but CyberWeb don't use this to try and bamboozle you into purchasing services you don't require. Instead, we help you pick the parts you need by explaining them in simple language. That's why referrals are substantial source of our business.

Here is the essence of components that you may need to build the right site for you

  • Address. The address of your website is usually your domain name often including the www prefix (eg. www.cyberweb.com.au).
  • Bandwidth. When CyberWeb refer to bandwidth, it means the amount of data retrieved from your site by people viewing your webpages. CyberWeb basic hosting package allows for a generous 3 Gb (that's 3000 megabytes!) per calendar month.
  • Blog. Short for weBLOG, a blog is commonly an online diary and can be a great way to keep customers, members or the public up to date when you update information often.
  • CMS or Content Management System. A CMS allows you to edit the webpages yourself from anywhere you have an Internet connection. This allows for instant updates to your site and can mean a busy site can have more than one editor - handy for large businesses and clubs.
  • Domain Name. Your domain name is the unique name for your website and is how you are found on the Internet (eg. cyberweb.com.au).
  • DNS (Domain Name Service). Basically, a DNS service is how a computer on the Internet finds your site and its services. Unlike some other companies, we don't charge for administering your DNS settings
  • Hits. Each hosting package includes a comprehensive hit counter to help you monitor how your site is accessed.
  • Hosting. When someone enters your domain name in a browser (such as www.cyberweb.com.au) the pages are retreived from a computer permenantly connect to the Internet. Cyberweb hosting services start with 1000Mb of storage (including email storage).
  • HTML. Heard the term and wondered what it meant? It stands for Hypertext Markup Language and it's the technical term for a webpage!
  • HTTP Server. Another term referring to the hosting.
  • Mail Server. CyberWeb can supply email services in different ways. Commonly, people are used to a POP server where email is stored remotely and retrieved to your computer in a mail program such as Outlook or Windows Mail. We can also offer the more advanced IMAP mail protocol. Webpage access is included with each account so you can retrieve your mail away from your computer.
  • URL. Uniform Resource Locator is another term for your address or domain name. (www.cyberweb.com.au)
